Twitter went berserk after Dhoni’s match-winning knock where he scored unbeaten 61 runs off 34 balls and rolled back the pages for his fans with a superlative performance in the death overs.
He might not be the player he once used to be, but the Ranchi-born cricketer is still hailed by many as one of the best finishers in the game.
His popularity is such that even when he is not playing, he would be one of the most in demand cricketers in the world. This is evident from what Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan had to say about buying Dhoni for his team. “Yaar main toh usko apna Pyjama bech ke bhi kharid lun, wo aaye toh auction mein (I’m ready to sell my pajama for buying MS Dhoni but that can happen only when he is available for auction right?),” Shah Rukh is quoted as saying by Sporstwallah.
Since IPL’s ten-year contract will come to an end after the ongoing season, Dhoni, along with a plethora of other superstars, will go under the hammer at the auction next year. While Chennai Super Kings will leave no stone unturned in trying to get back their skipper. It would be interesting to see whether SRK’s men will be willing to spend exorbitant sums to buy him for Kolkata.
